R&L Liquors was founded in 1974 by Carol Garner, her husband, and her father, Lou Ianire. Carol’s father had previously operated restaurants on Lewes’ Second Street from 1959 to 1980, contributing to the area’s vibrant hospitality scene. After selling the business in 1999, Carol continued to manage the store, ensuring its legacy of quality and community engagement.
Over the years, R&L Liquors has become a cornerstone of downtown Lewes, known for its extensive selection of craft beers, wines, and spirits.
Beyond retail, R&L Liquors actively participates in community events. In 2022, the store sold a bottle of 12-year-old Van Winkle bourbon for $1,700 and donated half the proceeds to Direct Relief to support Ukrainian relief efforts. Additionally, R&L Liquors co-hosts the annual Wine, Beer, and Cheese Tasting at Cape Henlopen State Park, benefiting the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park.
